Unbeaten run at home continues
Unlike on Wednesday night Stamford covert a dominate display into three points. Writes Stephen Breden.
Six minutes in and Stamford had already managed to do something that they had struggled to do all season. Henry Eze played the ball to Jordan Smith who did well to hold off his defender, he then beat him and crossed to Jake Duffy who finished with the aid of a deflection.
On the 17th minute Stamford had a second as Jake Duffy put a dangerous cross into the box, Liam Adams couldn’t get onto it but the defenders clearing header was met by Eliot Putman whose volleyed finish was excellent.
Ten minutes later Eliot Putman excellently crossed to Delroy Gordon who finished well but was deemed to be offside. On the 30th minute Romulus had their first chance of the game as Jourdain Masidi’s volley was deflected wide. Two minutes later and some good goal-line defending denied the Daniels as Rob Morgan slid in to get on the end of a Liam Adams cross but the defender got there first saving a goal.
Two minutes later and Liam Adams closed down the Romulus keeper as he received a back-pass, the ball deflected off Adams as the keeper tried to clear but it went just wide. Five minutes later and from a corner there was a goalmouth scramble but a good block from Henry Eze and a comfortably save by Max Smith-Varnam stopped the dangerous situation. Two minutes before the break a corner fell to Liam Adams on the edge of the box but his shot was blocked, then Rob Morgan played the ball to Jordan Smith who blazed his shot well over.
At half time Ben George was replaced by Jon Challinor. Three minutes after the break Sam Hill volleyed well wide after a corner. An Eliot Putman corner was put into the box and both Rob Morgan and Jordan Smith had efforts before the ball was played to Sam Hill who laid the ball to Jake Duffy whose shot cannoned of the bar and fell to Rob Morgan who beat the keeper in the air to head home. On the 60th minute Jake Duffy shot from range but this went well wide.
Four minutes later Jordan Smith played Liam Adams in but his scuffed shot went wide. Following this chance Jak Jeys replaced Liam Adams. On the 70th minute Shaquille Whittingham headed over from close range. Two minutes later the ball fell to Eliot Putman but he shot wide. Two minutes later Jake Duffy’s free-kick was blocked and then Rob Morgan had his shot saved. Ten minutes before the end Jordan Smith battled well with his defender before playing Jak Jeys in on goal but he was denied by a great last-ditch challenge by Cameron Lee.
A minute later Henry Eze crossed to Delroy Gordon whose header was easily saved. Two minutes later Jon Challinor had his cross blocked, but it fell back to him, he cut inside but his shot went well wide. Three minutes later he was in again down the right but his shot went wide. After this chance Jak Jeys was replaced by John King. On the 90th minute Barry Fitzharris’ free-kick was easily saved. The final chance of the game came three minutes into stoppage time as Jon Challinor was prevented from scoring by Matthew Jackson.
