Disappointing Daniels Defeated by Romulus
Victory for Romulus sees them move out of the relegation place and in the process knocks the Daniels out of the Playoff places.
Romulus had the first chance of the game, nine minutes in, as a bouncing ball clear dropped to Malachi Farquharson who volleyed over. Seven minutes later Stamford had their first chance of the game on the counter attack, Brad Wells played the ball to Bradley Fortnum-Tomlinson who squared it towards Jordan Smith
but the ball was played with too much power and thus Smith could not tap the ball in. On the 26th minute Romulus had another good chance as Kris Taylor put a free-kick just wide. On the half hour mark a free-kick in from the left was not dealt with allowing Malachi Farquharson to tap in from close range.
Two minutes later Romulus doubled their lead as Henry Eze
failed to deal with a cross from the right, the ball dropped to Yohan Rutty-Smith whose volley was deflected, wrong footing Danny Haystead, by Henry Eze
. Two minutes later and Eliot Putman
should have put the Daniels back into the game as he intercepted a poor pass out of the Romulus defence, he ran in on goal but could only shoot wide. Three minutes before the break Romulus’ Kris Taylor put another free-kick just wide.
After a slow start from both sides to the second half the Daniels made a double substitution as Ollie Brown-Hill
and Callum Ball
replaced Brad Wells and Rob Morgan
. Five minutes after these changes Jake Duffy
picked the ball up around halfway and ran at the Romulus defence before shooting well over the bar. The game picked up with ten minutes left starting off with Nathan Jackson heading a cross from the left just wide. Then two minutes later Stamford had a route back into the game as a Jake Duffy
corner was headed down to Ollie Brown-Hill
by Henry Eze
, with Brown-Hill remaining calm and slotting it home.
This route back into the game was short lived with Romario Martin picking up the ball before turning and curling an exceptional shot in from range. In stoppage time were two chances, one for each side. First a Jake Duffy
free-kick was easily saved by the Romulus keeper. The final chance fell to Romario Martin for the home side as he was played in on goal but he could only shoot wide.
