Stanford comeback against Braintree
Stanford stunned into action.....
Stanfords coaches thought the Christmas hangover had continued against Braintree last Sunday when they found themselves down 17 points in the first 15 minutes. The boys in red just could not seem to get going and Braintree were dominating every aspect of the game in fact if Stanfords defence had not been a bit stronger they could of been down even more points. Stanford's forwards were given a bit of a rocket from their coaches and they began to get a grip of the game to give their backs some decent ball to attack with. Lewis Cross attacked the blind side only to get tackled short of the line but the forwards recycled the ball allowing Harry Tillett to spread it wide, Alex Darnley tried to cross in the corner but was also held up short again the forwards recycled and some quick passing allowed Lewis Cross to score at the second attempt. Braintree didn't take this lightly though and from a line out in Stanford's 22 they scored again albeit aided by some shocking attempts at tackling from Stanfords players. Half time was called and Stanfords head coach told the red boys exactly what he thought of the first half performance, this done the trick From the first kick off Stanford were a different side their forwards clicked into action and their backs began to run their opponents ragged, Harry Tillett and harry taylor started to pull the strings and Lewis Cross and Alex Darnley were revelling in the space being created by their half backs. James Hutcherson and Jack Cochrane were leading by example and seemed to be where ever the ball was winning almost every breakdown. With Stanford chasing the game it was inevitable that Braintree would score again but it made no difference to the machine that was Stanford under 13's with 6 tries and 5 conversions scored in the second half, an excellent comeback and Braintree were a solid side and an excellent test before Stanford take on Southend in the league this week. Scorers on the day Lewis Cross 5, Alex Darnley 2 and Jamie Reason 1 harry taylor converted 7 times, Jack Cochrane was man of the match......
