Saints took an early lead with an excellent try scored by winger James Housman. However the Ashes responded with an excellent try of their own also scored out wide. In response, Saints rolled up their sleeves and stuck to their game plan. On a very heavy pitch the forwards had to work hard and a good defence meant the Ashes never really came close to scoring again. Saints had to grind out scoring opportunities and to their credit they were able to score five more tries. Replacement Adam Hayler entered the fray as a blindside flanker after the early loss of Konnor Ewudzi through injury, and immediately scored a try in the corner. Later and playing as a centre he completed Saints scoring with another well taken try. In between winger Kyle Johns, fly-half george brooks and replacement winger Jake Williamson also scored well worked tries. The remainder of Saint’s points were kicked by george brooks as Saints won 7-38.
