Saints started brightly and playing against the prevailing conditions in the first half were quickly into their stride. Forwards pod work was working well and Saints dominated the set piece from the first scrum to the last lineout. However despite having the lions share of possession they found it difficult to break down a resolute Falmouth defence. Bullocking runs by prop Charlie Nicholson and No8 Alan Breckin indeed put Falmouth on the back foot as did the midfield pressure from Kyran Grant and Aiden Evison but for the first half hour Falmouth stood firm. As the half progressed Falmouth began to crack under the pressure and a penalty goal from Dan Semple was some reward for the Saints pressure. The half ended with a Saints lineout deep in the Falmouth 22 and from a sound catch by Joe Semple the ball was spun from the hands of scrum half Sam Gordon to Dan Semple who beat the defence to dot down next to the posts. Semple added the extras and the half ended with the score at 0-10.

St Austell continued the second half where the first half finished and despite an early rally from the home side again began to dominate. Saints pack were having it all their own way at scrum time and turned ball over on several occasions. Similar success was being had at the lineout and turnover ball in the Falmouth 22 saw Saints hooker Ben Mace bully his way over for a second Saints try. The conversion just skimmed the outside of the posts but Saints were now in the box seat and pushed forward at every opportunity. With some 10 minutes left on the clock some powerful rucking presented substituted scrum half rhys daniel clean ball which was spun though four pairs of hands for a classic backs try scored out wide by full back Sam Kendall. Semple converted for a 0-22 lead which Falmouth never looked like troubling.

Credit to the home side. They played the full 70 mins with passion and discipline and were unlucky not to get points on the board but it was St Austell that took the points and look forward now to next weeks local derby at home against local rivals Bodmin.
