Be part of something worthwhile and fun

Please read this:

We are short of people to run the gate on the following dates:

Saturday 16th December for home game against Paington
Saturday 30th December for home Cup game against Penrynn
Saturday 13th January 18 for home game against Tiverton

What does 'running the gate' mean? Its really very simple and doesn't last all that long. You meet up at the clubhouse about an hour before kick off to receive your floats and a bag with some programmes in it then you stroll across to the gate and put our 3 cones to direct traffic into a channel. As cars pull up you find out if they are gym bunnies, tennis players or spectators. If they are the latter you charge them a fiver (bit less if they are a pensioner). After the game has started and people have all arrived you put the cones back and stroll back in, count the money and hand it over then go enjoy the rest of the game...That's it!

Think you can help whilst earning the undying gratitude of everyone from the Club Chairmen down? Text or call Al Cummins on 07902 216417 or email him on alancummins@live.co.uk

Please read this...nice friendly bunch and they are recruiting!

The St Austell RFC Supporters Group are an industrious bunch who will pretty much do anything to sustain the playing of rugby here at Tregorrick Park. Lots of clubs around the country are lucky enough to have these groups who recognise that bar sales alone are not enough to support a growing entity like ours.

They carry out various duties whilst working as a team in their own rights, enjoying themselves, doing some good and having a laugh. Year on year we increase our number of players from under 7’s to senior level players at the home of the Saints and our Supporters Group could do with a hand!

First of all a bit of history from Al Cummins:

Back in 2011 we realised the club needed some help to support the playing of rugby so we formed this Group. We needed some structure as we are not big in numbers so put together a Committee and appointed a Chairperson, Treasurer & Secretary to discuss how best we can be of use to the club moving forwards. We produced a set of Terms & Conditions and decided to (and still do) meet up the second Tuesday of each Month in the Rugby Club.

We primarily raise funds by running a 50 -50 draw on match days (now you know who we are!). Over the past six years we have helped fund the purchase of Kit & Equipment to help all age groups. We have also purchased equipment to help maintain the Pitches which again helps everyone playing at the club. If you have enjoyed a pre-match lunch at the club you will have done so using crockery, cutlery and kitchen equipment that we have purchased!

Our involvement is not always around buying stuff. We help in setting up the room for the pre-match dinners and provide manpower in manning the Gate for our Home games. We also help to meet and greet visiting team’s dignitaries and generally make ourselves useful where ever we can.

Supporters Group Treasurer Chris Thomas has kindly supplied a list to give you an idea of how hard the Group have been working. These are some of the items they have supplied since 2015:

• Cooker;
• Dishwasher;
• Spreader;
• Pressure Washer;
• Captains Board;
• Irrigation Trough;
• Slitter;
• Plastering;
• Fuel for Ground work machines;
• Massager;
• Stair Lift;
• Scrum Machine;
• Players Meals;
• Row Cornwall;
• Mats for Dugout.

Total £8798!
Fancy getting involved? They could use a few more volunteers to help. Give as little or as much time as you can. If any one wishes to help the Supporters Group they can contact Bill Wagstaff (Chairman) on st_austellrfc@outlook.com to say hello.

There are no membership fees or costs involved.

If you don’t fancy getting involved at least you now know where the people come from who stand at the gate or sell you a 50:50 raffle ticket…so why not say hello!
