Mark takes time out from tending his flock

What happens when a Mummy ladder loves a Daddy ladder very much? You get Mark Vian! Yes he's quite tall and whilst not spending time with his sheep he enjoys playing for the Saints. Some say his shoulder can pop out whilst he lays absolutely still in bed...Others say that not even that much movement is required.

Mark is another who graduated through our Colts system although at that time he did not jump regularly within our Colts setup. He has since blossomed into a key forward and a formidable presence all over the field.

His natural attributes coupled with a fantastic work ethic have seen several higher level clubs come calling , but Vianer has kept true to his Tregorrick Park roots. At the moment he is battling through another shoulder injury and everyone wishes him all the best for his recovery.

Here's Marks 20:

1. Best thing about Rugby and why?
Love playing with all the boys but Playing with my mates that I’ve played rugby with my whole life is always a really special moment.

2. Worst thing about Rugby and why?
“For me” injuries are always a pain in the ass. As you know it doesn’t take much nowadays for my shoulder to come out.

3. Earliest memory of playing Rugby?
I can just about remember my first training session turning up on a rainy Sunday morning and having a run around down on the third team pitch. Always was a bit of a fat kid so I wasn’t that impressed!

4. How Many Clubs have you played for and which ones were they?
Only the best one.

5. Best Memory with St Austell?
Unfortunately I wasn’t around for last years fantastic cup win. But “for me” getting some game time when we went up to Brighton. Just being apart of that team means a great deal to me.

6. Who has most influenced your game and why?
As much as it pains me to say it, Adam Kellow is a true St Austell legend. I remember Steve telling me to look what Kellow does and try keep up with Kellow in training. I thought to myself is Steve alright in the head? Why would I wanna be anything like that gummy bear? But now I know if I’m half the player he is I would have done alright (Ow friend).

7. Tell us your favourite [clean] joke?
What do Mexicans put under their carpets?

Underlay underlay

8. Who is the person you’d most like to be stuck in a lift with and why?

Someone with a grinder so I could get out. Hate lifts.

9. Who is your favourite professional player and why?
I would have to say Maro Itoje at the moment. I Think he is a diverse player and his work rate is crazy.

10. What is your favourite Film
That’s a hard one. I love a good film and I've collected one or two. I would have to say something like Coach Carter.

11. What is your favourite Book?
Not much of a reader because of the Dyslexia. But I do like a look in Farmers Weekly.

12. What kind of music do you like pre-game?
Anything really. Never good when Knighter forgets the speaker though.

13. Where do you see St Austell RFC and yourself in 5 years’ time in terms of rugby?
Hopefully playing every week injury free and winning lots of games whilst playing with a great bunch of lads and Sid.

14. What is your favourite pre-match food?
Normally busy working before a game and have been known to be a few minutes late once or twice. So never really have much time to eat before a game.

15. Why St Austell Rugby Club?
Love the club. Will never leave.

16. Which of your team mates is the most mischievous and why?
Hugh noot. Enough said. It’s all pretty unprintable stuff to be honest. Bit of a prankster. Likes to take the mick. Never too far away from an insult with Hugh.

17. Who is the best dressed man in the squad?
Kellow’s definitely the best dressed when it comes to training. Hector always likes to put in a lot of effort after a game. Some might say a little too much effort.

18. Which team mate is most likely to avoid paying for a round of drinks?
Been playing men’s rugby for 5 years and I’ve never seen Chinny’s hand go anywhere near his wallet.

19. What is your nick name?
Seem to get called everything but my name.

  • I Vianer
  • Hightower
  • Stretch
  • Gobbo
  • Count
  • Legs.

20. Use one word to describe you?
Reliable.

Webmasters Note: Ticket sales continue to rumble on for an evening with Jack Nowell, Gareth Steenson and Thomas Waldrom. Details of how to reserve and buy tickets are HERE

Pre-Match Lunches - Looking forwards to the home games we have left the Truro fixture is a sell out on 27th Jan although Tich will run a reserve list as there always seems to be some late drop-outs. The 17th Feb against Chard is also a sell-out. There is the 10th Feb Cornwall Cup semi-final against St Ives which promises to be a real belter. We are still formulating what to do for that but get in touch with Tich now to show your interest and see what we reveal. Its an earlier kick-off so finding the right balance of what to serve up is important! After that without knowing the venue for the next round of the Intermediate National Cup the next lunch with spaces available is 10th March against Devonport Services.

If you want to join us for lunch then contact Tich at sardineslayer@hotmail.co.uk to enquire where we can fit you in. Still great value at £15 for a 3-course lunch and ground entrance!

21st Feb is the last date that Andy Seaton and Julie can take RFU National Draw raffle ticket stubs and cash off you. Contact Julie and Andy via juliewhite58@btopenworld.com with questions or requests for more tickets. Remember this is probably the easiest money we can ever make as we get 90p of the £1 ticket price straight into our coffers!
