Saints earn hard-fought win over Wellington

A mixed weekend for our senior sides

Our Colts recorded a comprehensive victory over a plucky Bodmin side on Friday night to go through to their Cup Final. Yet again there were good displays all over the field and with the game secure all of the squad had game time under the lights of Tregorrick in front of a vocal crowd.

The Sinners travelled to Helston and lost 30 - 7. I know the lads were disappointed about the result and thought this was a game they could have won but on the day Helston proved just a little too strong.

Saints defeated a well-drilled Wellington side by 13 - 6. While never comfortable, I felt this was the best we have played for a while and there were signs that some of our fluency in attack and cussedness in defence were beginning to come back.

Once again we suffered injuries with players subbed off and, soon after half-time, our backline included one 18 year, one 19 year old, one 20 year old and a couple of 22 year olds. That's very exciting for the club and I felt they all acquitted themselves well. Winning a tight game against good opposition is fantastic experience and can only hold us in good stead for the tests to come.

We can now begin to plan for the Cup Final and I have to say that the whole club seems to be looking forward to it. We will begin as underdogs but that's understandable against a very good, resurgent Wadebridge side who have hit their stride over the past few months. we will try to put league positions out of our mind and concentrate on those things we can influence.

The opportunity to play in a final does not come along very often, as we know this is only the second in our history, when it does you want to give a good account of yourself and not have any regrets. All you can ask of any individual or team is that they play to their potential on the day and I know that we are all determined to do just that.

With our U16s also winning their County Shield game against Newquay 17 - 13 these are exciting times for the club so I hope you are able to make it down to Penryn to support us on Easter Saturday ko 15:45
