Special lunch for the “Original” Saints and a commemoration for founding father Geoff Allen

This Saturday sees the visit of Clevedon for the Saints’ penultimate home league game in a vital clash for both sides. The Saints will be all out to consolidate their position at the top and keep the pressure on their promotion rivals. The Somerset side will be desperate to aid their relegation fight by completing the double over their hosts by repeating their November victory.

The Saints’ support will be boosted by a unique reunion that brings together the players from the first ever St Austell RFC squad from 1963. As part of the season long celebration for the Club’s 50th Anniversary the "Original" Saints will enjoy a pre-match lunch and rekindle memories of the Club’s formative years and they will no doubt raise a glass or two in tribute to absent team mates. After the game the current squad will make a small presentation to the men who laid the foundations of St Austell RFC.

Before the game there will be a short but poignant ceremony to commemorate one of the Club’s founders Geoff Allen who unfortunately passed away earlier this year. The Allen family will be present for the unveiling of a memorial plaque in the Main Stand to honour Geoff’s special contribution to the Club. The occasion will be all the more special with so many of his former team mates present for the 1963 lunch.

It is fitting that in this Golden Anniversary season the Saints will finish in the highest league position ever achieved by a St Austell RFC side. They are still in the fight for promotion to the National Leagues and still have a County Cup semi-final to come!

Geoff Allen and the Original Saints will be justly proud!
