Last minute agony in a game we should have won.

240 miles is a long way to go for any match, but to travel all that way and lose was a great disappointment for all concerned.

14-4 up in the first half, the Y10 team allowed Colchester RGS back into the game, and found themselved 20-14 down after a disastrous error from the second half restart. Eddies fought back well to lead 26-20 and should have closed the game out. However, Colchester showed great strength and resilience to win the game with a brace of spectacular tries in the closing minutes, winning 28-26.

Eddies finished the game with a couple of players carried off with injuries. Jack Crompton ended his day in Colchester General Hospital with a dislocated shoulder. But no excuses - we were beaten by a better team and wish Colchester good luck in the quarter finals.

Eddies need to make sure they qualify for the regional and national rounds next season - their last chance of the major victory they keep promising they are capable of. This will mean a few good results against local opposition at the end of the season. No more mistakes or excuses!

A massive thank you to all the parents and grandparents who came to support us despite the long journey. Particular gratitude to Lindsey and Paul Horton who stayed back in Colchester to wait for Jack and me at the hospital. Back in Ashton just before midnight! Parental support is always greatly appreciated by players and staff.
