Sam "Rocket' Balls began playing for Steeple Claydon back in 2004 when Keith Brown spotted the 19 year old during the Village's 6-a-side competition. Sam quickly cemented his place in the First Team with his energetic performances and his influence on the game. Since an early age, Sam has been a skilful player both at schoolboy and club level having made appearances for Aylesbury United and Winslow United at a relatively young age. Sam has built a reputation as a dogged goal-scoring midfielder and a player/fan favourite wherever he plays.
Getting to know you:
What was it about Steeple Claydon that you enjoyed so much?
SB- "Banter, banter, banter! I just love the banter at the club. The atmosphere around the club was always amazing whether it be on the field, off the field or later in the pub!"
What's your most memorable moment in a Claydon shirt?
SB-"I'd have to say winning the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup Semi-Final game. The realisation that a small village club had reached the most senior amateur cup competition was just really intense. It's one that I'll always treasure!
Best player you've played alongside at Claydon and why:
SB- "Simon King, the boy has everything but a brain! His pace, commitment and skill make him one of the stand-out players I've played alongside. Best of luck to him in the army!"
Where are you now and what are your hopes for the future?
SB- "I'm at Winslow United now along with a lot of former Claydon players and coaching staff. I would really like to win the County Cup as I have saved a space in the cabinet for it. Then I can chuck away that runners up medal!"
Any closing words on your time at the Club:
SB- "Good luck guys in the future, my best days so far were spent as a Magpie and they won't be forgotten!"
