Claydon end league season with win
Magpies overcome stubbon Silverstone with 4-2 win
Steeple Claydon FC ended their 2012/13 league campaign on a high with a solid 4-2 win away at Silverstone.
With some notable absentees including Liam Roberts, Lee Hodges and with Adam Cowley nursing an ankle injury, Dave Terry stepped into a sweeper role in the Claydon backline.
Silverstone were keen to use the flick-on as much as possible for their pacey strikers to run onto and came close on two occasions in the opening exchanges that saw Jacob Hodgins put the ball in the back of the 'stones net, only to be ruled offside.
Silverstone took the lead after a goalmouth scramble led to a poked shot into the bottom right corner of the net, but Claydon rallied on and hit back with goals from Sam Fedoriw and Jacob Hodgins after good ball winning and distribution by Alex Webb, Richard Griffiths and George Carpenter in the centre of midfield.
Claydon then made it 3-1 late in the second half with a quick throw taken by Barrie Davies providing the perfect through-ball to Jacob Hodgins to slot his second of the night away and Davies made it 4-1 with a trademark header of his own.
The gloss of Claydon's performance in front of a relatively large crowd was taken off when Silverstone snatched a sloppy second goal in the dying seconds of the game but it wasn't enough to derail a solid win for Steeple Claydon.
