Steeple Claydon FC v City Colts - Match Report
Steeple Claydon FC lose first league game
Match Report from Chris Farnell (Team Manager)
Well lads this was our first game of the season. We played a 352 formation and pretty much dominated the 1st half. We didn't create much but defended well as a team and kept them out.
The few chances we created put them under pressure. We went 0-1 up after a penalty, the ref noticed a pull on Lee Stewart and awarded a spot kick. Matt Gibbs put the ball into the bottom corner to put us 1 up.
We were still defending well and working hard off the ball. We created a half chance and the keeper made a strange save fumbling the ball onto the goal line, there defender come running in to save the day and somehow did a 360 turn and back healed the ball into his own net. Comical goal and fully deserved to be 0-2 up.
Still working hard, we see the 1st half off being 0-2 up and playing well. The 2nd half and we started ok soon scoring a 3rd after some good work in midfield and another goal for Matt Gibbs. 0-3 up and to be honest we were cruising.
What happened after I still cannot describe or put my finger on it. They scored a simple goal to get back to 1-3 and it stayed this way for a while.
The ref was dire and was giving these guys anything and everything. He gave them 3 consecutive free kicks on or around our box and the 4th foul or what he thought was a foul was in our box. Penalty given, scored and they were back in the game 2-3. They then quickly scored again to make it 3-3 they were pumped and well up for the remaining 10 mins and kept coming at us.
We couldn't hold the ball up, could not defend and really everyone started to fade away or give up while they kept coming at us. Another scruffy goal right at the death of this game gave Colts all 3 points and what was a remarkable turnaround from there point of view.
We lost the 2nd half big time and conceded 4 goals in the space of half a hour. Gutted was not the word, still am. Everyone could not believe what happened. All i can say is we learn from it, we forget the result and we move on to next week.
