On a bright but chilly Wednesday night the U-15s opened their 2012 season with a visit to Drumpellier, unfortunately for their first game a Scottish Cup tie.
Drumpellier won the toss and opted to bat.
It wasn't until the 7th over of the 20 to be bowled that Stenhousemuir achieved their first breakthrough when Alan Chandrachud in his final over had their opener bowled for 24 with the score on 44. Another partnership of 36 then took the score to 80 in the 15th over, before Stuart Gardner removed the other opener run out from a smart piece of fielding.
That was to be Stenny's last success as Drumps piled on the runs to end on a very creditable 130 for 2 off their 20 overs (at an impressive rate of 6.50 runs per over). Alan Chandrachud was the only wicket taker with the ball, however Adham Aslam bowled a tight spell of 4 overs for 17. Pick of the bowlers on the night however was Craig McIntosh who's 4 overs only went for 13 runs, an excellent spell of bowling deserving of a wicket.
131 to win was a tall order for the teams first batting outting of the season, and so it was to prove.
After Adham Aslam was out for 3 with the score on 7, Alan Chandrachud and Usman Abbid rallied briefly moving the total on to 29 before Usman was Run Out.
After this partners came and went but none stuck around long enough to make a telling contribution, until at 62 for 7 Jack Morton came to the crease. In the closing 4 overs he kept Alan Chandrachud company scoring a very creditable 9 not out in a partnership of 22. When the Innings closed Alan Chandrachud had made an excellent 40 not out and the team a creditable 84 for 7 off their 20 overs (at a touch over 4 runs per over).
So Drumpellier ran out worthy winners on the night by 46 runs in the end.
Man of the Match is a no brainer tonight with 40 not out and a wicket it goes to Alan Chandrachud, well done Alan.
Plenty for Rushdi & Etienne and the coaches to work on during the season, 100+ runs per Innings looks like par so work to do on the batting and running between the wickets. Bowling needs tightening up also. Despite this it was a highly creditable first outting of the season.
