Think this may be the shortest match report of the season, simply for the reason what can you write about in such a dismal display.
Things got off to a disappointing start when the first wicket fell at 10 Ray McBride
bowled for 6, followed in quick succession by alan reed
for 3 Angus McIntosh
for 2 and Peter Moses
& Scott Bisio
both for ducks. 14 for 5 in the 10th over.
After an all to brief rearguard by Brian Reid
& Waqas Haleem
which saw the score double from 14 to 29, Waqas Haleem
departed for 6.
Could things get any worse - Oh yes they could as Brian Reid
watched partners come and go with jaw dropping regularity and at times shots to match, being left high and dry on 6 not out, having quite literally run out of support. None of the final 4 batsmen troubled the scorers all getting ducks, as the Stenhousemuir Innings ended on a woeful 32 all out in the 22nd over.
The East Kilbride Innings was short and sweet as they dispatched the runs needed in a mere 4.4 overs. This was in no small way helped by 11 wides being bowled by the bowlers (1/3 of the required total). Small criticism given the total being defended but indicative of a miserable performance all round.
How do you decide upon a man of the match in this one - going to be nepotistical (found a word longer than our Innings to include) and give it to myself Brian Reid
for my 6 not out. Why because I was the only one prepared to stick around and try and make any runs as wickets tumbled around me, with 6 of the 7 partners I had all falling for 0.
Not a day which will stay for long in the memory bank.
Thanks go to our hosts East Kilbride who again made it a very sociable day, sorry we didn't make it a decent contest today worthy of your hospitality - we had so much much time left in the day that we agreed between the teams to play a 15 (8 ball) over a side friendly match.
