In the first game S&L played a very quick Stamford, who moved the ball effectively through their back line. The S&L defensive play was excellent and we closed down most of Stamfords attacks, with some great cover tackling from Christian, Kalum and Brandon. A special mention goes to Jack Stevenson who's effort around the ruck managed to spoil a lot of Stamford ball, and for the second game running he was carried off. Luckily no lasting damaged.
Score: S&L 0 Stamford 10
The second match was a local derby against Kettering. Straight from their own kick off S&L won the ball and drove into the Kettering pack. After a number of drives from Jack Barker
and Luke, Curtis recycled the ball to Keiran Manson who fed Joe who was tackled by Kettering, only for Josh (playing his first game for two seasons) to pick up the ball and release Kyron Phoenix for the opening score. A real team try! The same combination of Curtis, Keiran and Joe repeated the earlier move, this time finding Charlie who raced home from 40metres for the second try. The second try spurred Kettering to life, and they quickly scored two easy tries through poor tackling. Remember boys "they can't run without legs!"
The second half was a very tight affair, until Morgan stole the ball from a Kettering ruck and then ran past half the Kettering team (and half of the pitch) to score in the corner. Kettering came back strongly, but the S&L defense held together well and did not allow Kettering to make any ground. Kettering were awarded a scrum inside the S&L half, which they won however slow play from their scrum half allowed Kieran to apply pressure and for Morgan to break off the back of the scrum to intercept the pass. Morgan didn't look back and headed straight for his second try.
The last word goes to Reece who made an excellent debut. Well done.
