It was hugely successful festive period for the Barrowmen as they got their season firmly back on track with two excellent local derby wins.

Last Tuesday night the Barrowmen played their first of two 'mid-sussex derbies' of the festive season at home to Storrington.

In front of a large three figure Shooting Field crowd goals from young Ollie Finney on 14 minutes and Rob Clark on 50 and Charlie Romain on 62 gave us an impressive 3-1 win over the Swans.

A late reply from Swans' Matt Searle did not take the polish off a well deserved victory over our near neighbours.

On Monday morning in 'mid-sussex derby no 2' we kicked off 2017 in fine style with a very comfortable 6-0 win at home to struggling Billingshurst.

At a cold but bright and sunny Shooting Field we started a little slow with a lack of penetration in the box after good approach play and could have fallen behind against the run of play when Hurst left-back Barber got forward to hit a dipping cross for Ben Rose to finger tip over from just under the bar.

However on 23 minutes we went ahead when Scott Faber hit a superb strike on the run from the right side of the Hurst box to billow the roof of their net for 1-0 (this is the goal pictured in this article).

To be honest after that we never looked back.

Two goals before the break from Charlie Romain put Town firmly in control. The first was a tidy toe poked finish after the keeper rushed out to close him down, the second a penalty awarded for a foul on Rob Clark, made it 3-0 at half-time.

In the second-half we continued to link up well and play some good football making almost all the chances of note and leaving Billingshurst chasing shadows for most of the half.

On 50 minutes Ash Finch got forward down the left to cross for Romain to play in Craig Knowles to score from close range. 4-0 to finish off a fine team goal.

On 60 Faber linked up with Knowles to cross for Clark to find the bottom left corner with a volley finish for 5-0.

And, on 82 we rounded it off when Knowles grabbed his second after a goal mouth scramble. 6-0 Town and one of their most fluent performances of the season.

Yes, an excellent festive period and we start the new year well and truly the owners of all the local bragging rights (!!) and most of all in a strong joint 3rd place in the table.

With the strike force of Milner and Adams still to return from injury along with a host of other injured players the squad has stood up well to the demands of recent weeks.

We also go into this Saturday's home match with leaders Little Common with confidence high and our tails firmly in the air (KO at Shooting Field 3pm - be there)!

Happy New Year for 2017!
