Steyning were defeated 2-0 at home by 3rd place Mile Oak on Saturday.

Town were handed their fourth straight defeat by a strong a well organised Mile Oak outfit. The Barrowmen were once again without forwards Lewis Levoi and Chad Milner as well as defenders Ben Greer, Ash Finch and Ollie Pickup. Dave Harris was also not present after deciding to leave the club having been asked to play for the reserves on Friday evening. Sam Smith came in to partner Kerry Parsons at centre back. Town knew it was going to be another tough afternoon against one of the the divisions more fancied sides.

The first half end of end stuff, with Oak controlling more ofthe possession, but Steyning looking increasing dangerous on the break. The Town backline was performing strongly and was giving the Oak forwards little change, and the half chances they create came to nothing. The best chance of the half fell to Ryan Warr for Steyning but he drilled against the post when put through one on one.

0-0 half time and plenty for both teams to think about. However the second half got off to a dramatic start as Steyning were caught cold and within 30 seconds of the restart an Oak forward was upended in the box after a neat turn. Oak Skipper Paine made no mistake from the spot burying hard and low to the left.

This knocked the stuffing out of Steyning, and they went under aperiod of extreme pressure but somehow managed to waether the storm and keep the score to one goal. Just when it seemes that Steyning were starting to rally and get back in to the game and Oak free kick was whipped in at speed and skipper Parsons was unfortunate as the ball glanced off his head and nestled in the far corner within 20 minutes to go.

That really signalled the end of the game as a contest as Oak were looking stronger and Steyning although create a few half chances never really convinced that they were going to get back in the game.

A frustrating fews weeks for Steyning, however with Levoi, Milner and Finch all due to return, plus some really good signings made this week then Town will look to be get back to winning ways pretty soon. Hopefully starting this weekend away at Haywards Heath.
