On Saturday the Barrowmen played their first home match of 2019.

They ultimately completed a well deserved victory and kept up the at the momentum at the top of Division One with a 3-1 win over Wick.

However, on a grey and overcast afternoon at the Birchwood Ground @ the Shooting Field the game got off to a very poor start, as after just two minutes we went behind to a soft goal from returning Wick midfielder Shane Brazil.

We were a little shell shocked but slowly but surely gathered ourselves and pressed to get into the game with some strong, penetrative running down both flanks from the ever willing Josh Maher and Rob Clark.

After Grant Radmore went close with two good attempts, on 29 minutes we got our reward.

Clarky cut in from the right to deliver a decent ball into the box for Radmore to head firmly wide of the Wick keeper to level the score.

The goal settled us and Connor Bull and Scott Faber both went close with good strikes.
Just before the break a Maher cross from the left found the head of Alex Gathern, producing a superb finger tip save from Wick keeper Bachelor.

Half time - Town 1 Wick 1

Four minutes after the restart we got the breakthrough we wanted when club stalwart Lewis Levoi slotted home from close range after some neat work from Alfie Gritt. 2-1 Town.

After that we never looked back and on 67 minutes Gritt cut in from the right to blast home and effectively put us out of sight. 3-1.

The introduction from the bench of Ben Bacon, Maycol Sabino and returning youngster Dan Thompson added some fresh legs to see us home and wrap up the points.

The game was at times a little feisty with yellow cards shown to both sides for some rather blatant fouls. But it was job done again, we did well to recover well after a bad start and with Bexhill, AFC Varndeanians and Alfold all failing to win, those points strengthened our position as league leaders. Well done one and all! league 12 games to go.

Next up - next Saturday we have an away fixture down at Sidlesham (KO @ Selsey Rd 3pm).
