Town came away from fourth placed Haywards Heath with a valuable point in a 1-1 draw.

The Barrowmen bounced back from their mid week humiliation at FA Vase semi finalists Eastbourne United AFC.Town made a few changes, with Dodd remaining at centre back where he had moved to in the previous match ,and Finch moving out wide on the left. Rose returned in goal replacing Evans who has left the club for Shoreham, Elms and Harris formed the partnership in the middle of the park and Clark and Bilal started up front. Warming the bench were Burton, Pargeter and Bukleb.

From the off a strong a physical Heath side looked to stamp their authority on the game knowing that a win was essential to keep their promotion hopes alive. In the early stages it was end to end as Heath played some nice constructive football, using either full back well, and Town were creating some good territory through the eager running of Clark, who looking lively and menacing as he has done in recent weeks.

However it was Heath who got the early breakthrough when a cross was whipped in to the far post, eluding everybody, and Hall was left with the simplest of chances to nod home. At this point Steyning were really on the back foot and Heath had a number of chances to extend their lead, with Rose making one excellent tip over, and a with the other chances being wasted. Steyning were struggling to get in to the final third as they were wasteful in possession and the physicalilty of the Heath midfield winning that battle and creating the pressure in the Steyning final third. Town were relieved to go in only one goal down.

The second half was a more even affair with Heath edging the early stages and they went after the elusive second goal. However a few half chances came to nothing, as wayward shooting found the netting behind the goal being well used. Around the hour mark Towns defence and midfield were finally warming to the task and starting to get a foothold in the midfield. Suddenly they were winning the 50 :50's and a few decisions were going there way. Knowing that had to push forward, Town brought on Burton for Bilal, and suddenly the momentum of the game started to turn. Clark was still causing problems with his direct running and the midfield were starting to push numbers in to the box. It was on one of these forays in the 84th minute that the equaliser came. Lee Early raced forward from right back and created the overlap, he then whipped in a cross with pace and dip that eluded the home keeper and nestled in the top left hand corner. A stroke of luck for the Barrowmen, but a goal nonetheless. This really rocked the hosts, and Town suddenly sensing blood, roared forward in the last ten minutes and Shug'aa twice went close when played through and Clark also went close.

At the other end it was Heath who were now playing on the break but didn't really manage to create any chances of note before the final whistle went.

Overall a great point for Steyning against a strong well organised Heath side who played some great football, but ran out of ideas against a resolute Town side. The two teams lock horns again this coming weekend as the reverse fixture is part of a double header for the firsts v HH Heath and reserves v Selsey this coming Saturday at The Shooting Field.
