Steyning Town today announced they have taken on the lease at the Mackleys Playing Field in Small Dole.

The club have a longer term view to turn this in to the clubs very own training facility and smaller pitches for some of the Junior teams. The site currently has an 11 aside pitch and a small clubhouse with changing rooms . As well as supporting senior training, the site will also be used as extra pitches for 9, 7 and 5 aside pitches for youth sides.

In a joint venture with Mackleys and the Mackley Family, Steyning Town have entered in to an agreement which will see significant improvements to the site over the coming weeks, months and years.

Club chairman Richard Woodbridge added " It is a site we had got hold of a few years ago thanks to hard work from Peter Walsh and as a club we didn't make the most of it at the time. Its great to be involved here again and have a second bite of the cherry. We have had some exciting chats and see this has huge potential to be developed in to an excellent facility for the whole club. The potential for changing, storage, toilets, floodlighting and everything we need is right here. We are very grateful to the Mackley family for allowing this opportunity again. We are also thankful to them and to Mark Munns for the work they have put in, and the work already funded in getting the facility up to scratch. The work and supportof Vic Gretton at Mackleys and Ian Nichols in getting this all underway should also be acknowledged.

This is just another example of hard work all our volunteers are putting in to ensure the club has the best facilities available. We recognise the site is work in progress at present but the potential is enormous. Its another important building block for the clubs long term stability and development"

The senior squad will be starting their pre season training at the site on Thursday 23rd June.
