The season started on a hot day back in October and it was nearly as warm when the 3's finished their season at Southwick on Saturday
Having dropped from 5th to 10th in the second half of the season a win was badly needed to end on a high.
Saint's dominated the first half with Matt Upchurch
in goal hardly getting a touch of the ball. Mark Butcher
opened the scoring and added a second shortly after following some excellent work from man of the match James Peel
and Steve Branagan
. Saints defence was rarely troubled and this allowed Edward Whitehead
to push forward and score his first senior goal to give Saint's a 3-0 half time lead.
The heat started to take its toll in the second half and Saints were unable to repeat their first half dominance despite some good performances in midfield from Tim Upchurch
and Steve Kent
. They finally added a 4th when Billy Donohoe
deflected a shot into the Southwick Goal off the underside of the crossbar! But Saint's were now getting lazy which and some slack defending from a quickly taken free hit allowed Southwick to pull a goal back near the end.
4-1 the final score and 3 points which see Saints avoid relegation after their first season in Division 4.
