First Team Slip Up
Not a game to remember
After an unbeaten start to the season and a cracking 9-0 victory last weekend St Francis went in to a game against a team still hunting for their first win of the season full of optimism. South Saxons started with no goalie, a fact St Francis soon took advantage of with Oli Keating opening the scoring. St’s continued to attack and went 2-0, again by Oli, Saxons then started to play and got on the offensive causing captain Pete Mowforth to deny a goal using his body; awarding a penalty flick, which although Rob got a glove to sailed into the goal. A few minutes later St's conceded a shortie and another goal 2-2. Then Saxons keeper arrived. Initial optimism soon turned to complacency with lax defending and no desire for the game. After half time there was an initial pick up in game play and a few promising attacks from St’s came to no avail. Despite this new found hunger a few silly mistakes, leading again from St’s, at times non-existent marking led to Saxons slotting the ball home. The game couldn’t finish soon enough for St’s. A disappointing 6-2 loss. After some hard work at training on Tuesday (25th) eyes are on the next game against Lewes to see how St’s have recovered from a lacklustre performance. Man of the Match was awarded to Oli Keating.
