Assistant Manager departs
The club lost the services of assistant manager Paul Jones who stepped down at the weekend. Paul started a new job this week in Manchester and the change in role as well as the commute means he is unable to commit the time he feels is necessary to fulfil the role.

Club Chairman John McKiernan said, ‘Paul’s been with us for the past three seasons, joining when the club appointed Ian Granite as manager and he stayed with us when Ian stepped down. He has worked tirelessly on behalf of the club and players and I’d like to thank him for all his considerable efforts and wish him well for the future.’

Alex Gillespie
Last Friday saw Alex suffer a broken leg in a freak accident during the warm-up prior to a game for Winstanley College. At the time of writing (Wednesday) he is currently in plaster and has now been admitted to Whiston Hospital awaiting an operation to have a metal plate inserted.

Alex has starred for three of the club’s teams already this season with appearances for the U18s, U21s and the 1st team and will hopefully make a speedy return to full fitness before the end of the season.

FA Carlsberg Vase
The 2nd Qualifying Round of the FA Carlsberg Vase will see Town play host to Nostell Miners Welfare FC of the Toolstation Northern Counties East League Premier Division. The games is scheduled for Sunday 5th October at 3pm as our landlords Ashton Athletic have also been drawn at home and will play on Saturday 4th October.

Bert Trautmann
On Monday 15th September club Chairman John McKiernan attended a memorial service for former player and club President Bert Trautmann at the Ethiad Stadium, home of Manchester City.

John said, ‘It’s was great to hear the recollections of Bert’s life and sporting achievements as well as meet former team-mates, family and friends.

'It was a wonderful tribute to Bert whose ashes were laid to rest in the Manchester City memorial garden outside the stadium.’
