Stithians 10, Helston 25

Helston now find themselves virtually guaranteed of second place in Tribute Cornwall One following a solid performance against a stubborn Stithians outfit.

Helston dominated play for much of the first half with their pack pushing the home side back in the scrums and looking dangerous with ball in hand.

Stithians kicked well from in their own half to relieve pressure on several occasions though it was Stithians on the scoreboard first after 35 minutes with an unconverted try from full back Mark Murray wide out.

Two minutes later Helston were awarded a penalty which they elected a shot at the posts but Kevin Mitchell pulled it wide only for left wing Tim Williams to chase down pick up and dive over the line for a great opportunist try which was then converted by Mitchell 5-7.

Shortly afterwards the visitors were awarded another penalty this time slotted over by Mitchell giving them a 10-5 lead at the break.

Early in the second half Stithians drew the scores level with a well finished try from left wing Steven Hall. Helston bought players on off the bench who made a good impact and on 55 minutes gained the lead again after the backs put the ball through their hands for Harley Cheeseman to finish off in some style in the corner to push the score out to 10-15.

The visitors never looked back from that point and were looking in good form with ball in hand.

Mid way through the second period fly half Paul Saberton received the ball just inside the opposition half and made a great break darting down the blindside catching the homeside out to score wide out.

Then in 10 minutess later Helston had a lineout 30m out from the Stithians line which they caught and drove towards the line and then released Cheeseman on the right wing for him to score his second try of the afternoon and make the final score 25-10
