A brilliant weekend for Superleague and the NRL to showcase what this sport is about. James Warrener investigates for St Ives Roosters...

Where to start eh?

It was a brilliant weekend of rugby from the off.

Naturally the cynics will point to the margin of defeat for St Helens in the main event, but they would be wrong to do so.

But that's getting ahead of ourselves.

The first match pitched Warrington Wolves against St George Dragons and this one had a bit of everything on a slippy pitch.

That the close line by Eto Nibouli was a by-product of 80 minutes of top quality sport is testament to the two teams.

There wasn't oodles of free flowing passing. But there was plenty of physical contact up front and the tries that were scored were well constructed and executed.

I happen to think the Wire could have got over the line and won the match had a couple of the bigger decisions gone their way.

Wigan and Brisbane served up another tense encounter with typical British Winter weather and a real atmosphere.

Golden point added to the occasion, regardless of the legitimacy of the penalty that decided the outcome. It was an advert for our game that should make us proud.

St Helens and Souths was always going to be overshadowed by Russell Crowe ditching the Oscars for Langtree Park.

A good decision as it turned out with the Rabbitohs giving the sort of master class that I think gives comparison to other great teams in other sports.

Are they up there with all conquering Real Madrid Soccer team and Chicago Bulls Basketball outfits?

On that showing, for me, yes. They made a St's side that had battered big spending Salford the week before look pedestrian.

At times they looked like playing a different sport to their opponents and despite the scoreline being so one sided, I really enjoyed the game.

So, its all about legacy now. Next up for me is the Magic Weekend and getting my St Ives Roosters jersey on TV!
