Reserves - Report
| Hatfield Town Reserves | 1 | vs | 3 | St Margaretsbury Reserves |
A mixed bag but a winning start!
Hatfield Town away a quick 15 minute trip so not to bad.
It would be a much changed team to take the field from wednesday after losing Ed Horey (dead leg), Matt Chappell (romancing), Darren Spinks (not signed) and both Chris Vargas and Michael Pestana (holiday).
Also with certain staff absent due to drinking duties at V festival a helping hand from Kaine Lovett and Pier Angelini was very much appreciated.
With british summer weather at its very best the game started in a downpour! Smart play in the middle from Paul Evitt led to some good through balls we really sould have gone ahead but didnt have to wait long.....another through ball which Dritero jumped on and slammed the ball into the bottom corner from across the goal...1-0!
Not 5 minutes had passed when another through ball....Dritero onside and a great chip over the keeper who had come out to close down 2-0.
We really should have been out of sight before half time with Adamos trying to walk the ball over the line and some great free kicks put in by Paul Evitt which we failed to get on the end of......but as you know in football if you dont take your chances it comes back to bite you hard!
After stopping another Hatfield attack bang on half time Dom Angelini smashed the ball up field only for it to hit the attackers back leg fly over Ellis Lynch in goal and into the back of the net.....shocker!!!! 2-1
So after few words at half time to get the boys up again we were out and up against it........the goal before half time had given Hatfield belief and we were on the back foot.
Tony Molanari was brought on for an injection of energy in the midfield on 60 minutes.
We were up against it for the next 20 minutes with Hatfield pressing and pushing to get level....but right when it looked like we would concede we got a free kick that was delivered into the box and who was there to finish.....Scott Mcgunniess 3-1 game over.
Eddie Mclouglin was on with 10 minutes to go as Dom Angelini was suffering from cramp.........he done well to win some big headers as hatfield had one last go.
So with the makeshift team we had a very good performance and win.

Gary Stock - 1 year agoGood to be able to catch up with the reserves on these reports - well done.
Always feels good to start the season with a win, with no pressure allowed to build up of when will a first elusive win come.
Great start and good luck against Hadley this Sat.
Stephen Holmes - 1 year agoHATFIELD Town Reserves’ boss Craig Caswell remains confident despite seeing his side fall to a home defeat to their St Margaretsbury counterparts in their season opener.
Town were defeated 3-1 in the Spartan South Midlands League Reserve Division One encounter, but Caswell believes it’s far too early to start getting worried and is confident there is more to come.
“I am happy with our never-give-up attitude and can see us being a force to be reckoned with when the team has had time to gel,” said Caswell.
“We have a young side who have come up this year from youth football. But all of them looked very comfortable at this level.
“And the four new Town players; Derren Thompson, Ryan Smith, Matty Jo, and Lee Newman all fitted in the side very well.”
It was a scrappy start to the game, and the players found it hard to get to grip with the skiddy surface.
After 26 minutes a through ball from the St Margaretsbury midfield caught both Town centre-halves off-guard and the Bury striker finished well in to the bottom corner.
From the kick-off good work from new signings Thompson and Smith worked a ball wide to Newman who put Jo through but the keeper made a fantastic save down to his right-hand side.
On 44 minutes another mistake from the Hatfield backline let in a Bury striker who casually lifted the ball over Town’s keeper to make it 2-0.
But just one minute later a clearance from an under-pressure Bury defender hit an on-rushing Jo which saw the ball loop in to the net to end the half 2-1.
With a good talk at half-time from Caswell and assistant manager Leigh Bembrick, Town came out with all guns blazing.
Newman had a great effort cleared off the line, and other chances fell to Smith, Thompson, Jo, and Dan Bisby. But with 10 minutes left, the Bury made a rare break forward and punished town to make it 3-1.
Town pressed on but just couldn’t find the back of the net. The Broadacres Construction man of the match award went to Jordan Lewis.
