SMOB RFC to host social 7s tournament in support of RFU Injured Players Foundation

St Mary's Old Boys will host their first-ever 7s competition in aid of the RFU Injured Players Foundation (IPF).

In 2015 lifelong member, Liam O'Keeffe, suffered a life-changing injury when he broke his neck playing the game he loved. Liam’s injury cruelly robbed him of his playing days, but most significantly has left him paralysed from the waist down.

Whilst the support of those closest to Liam has been a constant positive throughout his rehabilitation, it has been the incredible support from IPF that has led to some of the most notable advances in his recovery. IPF provide support and information to rugby players in England who sustain catastrophic spinal cord injuries or traumatic brain injuries playing the game, and help prevent future injuries through research and education.

The support IPF has given to Liam over the past couple of years has been life-changing, however; they are a charity and rely on donations. With this in mind, we are desperate to raise money to enable this fantastic charity to continue their life-changing work.

On Saturday 11 August 2018 we will be welcoming 10 male and 8 female teams from across the country to compete in our first ever IPF Social 7s event.

We have plenty going on in the day with 7s rugby, food stalls, sponsors stalls and a high-end raffle including prizes such as signed England memorabilia by Eddie Jones. In the evening we have a live band and DJ with fancy dress followed by onsite camping.

With so much going on, in order to make this successful we need support from our club members and local community to attend on the day and, for those you wish to support the event further, be one of valued volunteers. Volunteers will be well looked after by our event caterers who has kindly offered meal tokens to those offering to help us out on the day.

All monies spent on the event have been done via sponsorship and all team entry and tent pitch costs will be donated directly to the charity along with any money made from our on the day games and raffle. Therefore, we are still looking for key sponsors to help support funding our event and cover overheads. In exchange, we offer publicity via our social media platforms, your logo in the event programme and banners at the clubhouse.

If you are interested in sponsoring the event, volunteering to support on the day or have any questions regarding the event, please contact Kirsty Fido on 07450356290 or email ipfsocial7s@gmail.com.
