St Minver Res 4 - 1 High Street
Minver win emphatically at home
After a lengthy break from action, we welcomed High Street to Trewint Lane, looking to bounce back after our frustrating loss against St Merryn a month ago.
Conditions were similar to the 2-2 draw last time we played High Street, a difficult game on a weather beaten pitch and poor weather as well as us missing a few key players.
It was to no surprise that the beginning of the game was a scrappy affair with both teams struggling to keep hold and make use of the ball. Despite both teams not making any clear cut chances, we were just about on top for the majority of the half with us looking dangerous in spells.
However, the visitors were the first to take the lead when the High Street forward beat the offside trap to race towards goal. A fine save from Gavin Standen in goal from the initial shot was not enough with the striker firing home in off the post to give them the lead.
Little chances continued to be created by either side with a few long range efforts from the home side being spilled by the visiting keeper.
Half Time: St Minver Reserves 0-1 High Street
With the conditions still poor going into the first half, we immediately went on the front foot with our passing and direct style of play beginning to cause havoc for the visitors defence. An industrious and dogged performance from the Minver midfield created many chances but it was looking like it was not going to be our day.
After a flurry of changes, our goal finally came when a Mike Green corner sneaked its way in at the near post giving us a deserved goal. After the goal, the pressure started to become too much for the tiring High Street players with Matt Webster and Harry Webster containing the visitor’s main threat in their attacking arsenal.
It was soon 2-1 as Luke Henderson finally got his goal when he capitalised on the keeper’s spill from Jason Northcott’s effort.
A gritty and resolute performance from everyone gave us our third goal when Chris Simmons was played through on goal who coolly slotted home to give us some breathing space.
The three points were sealed late on when the ball fell to Lewis Knowlden who emphatically struck home from 25 yards into the bottom left hand corner.
