Biscovey 0 v 6 St Minver 1sts
Saints comprehensively get the upper hand in the first of 2 encounters in 2 weeks v 2nd placed Biscovey.
A wet and very soft Par Running Track welcomed us for our top of the table clash versus inform Biscovey in the first of 2 encounters in 2 weeks. This week in the league and next weekend in the Quarter Finals of the Junior Cup. Whoever wins today would take the psychological advantage in to the Cup match.
The game started with Biscovey bossing the early encounters looking the more lively and more likely to take the lead. Then on 14 minutes our first piece of cultured play resulted in a 4 man short passing routine around the edge of the box culminating in picking out Ted Meagor in the box. Ted took a touch and then quickly moved the ball sideways with the defender already committed to the challenge taking Ted down and the ref correctly awarded the penalty.
Up stepped the confident Corey Cleave to roll the ball home to the right from the spot after committing the keeper to dive to the left.
The game was then fairly even for 20 minutes until we started to take better care of the ball and start to have more intelligent possession. In the 35th minute we won a corner which was beautifully swung in to the near post. Andrew Seymour read the flight and glanced his header just in advance of the arriving keeper and defender and we were 2-0 up.
Half time: Biscovey 0 - 2 St Minver 1sts
In to the 2nd half and with Biscovey making a number of substitutions, we started to dominate the game and it looked like if we could bag a 3rd the momentum would remain with us.
10 minutes in to the 2nd half our domination was awarded as Ted Meagor eluded his marker and made a sharp sprint clear of the defence and finished stylishly across the keeper in to the bottom right corner for 3-0.
We then started to introduce our subs, the first was Mike Kempthorne on the hour replacing Steve Wootton in central midfield. As the Biscovey players tired in the heavy conditions the introduction of quality from the bench such as Tike is a real advantage for us. He got involved immediately and started to spread the ball around and create more space for us going forwards.
The 65th minute was a game defining moment as we were awarded a free kick well outside the left side of the box. Top goalscorer Andrew Seymour fancied it and boy wasn't he right. He whipped in an unstoppable shot that nestled in the top right corner with the keeper motionless.
We then made a double substitution bringing on Dan Colwill and Ryan Pooley for Richard Simmons and Callum Wilson respectively. Callum had been a constant thorn in the side of the Biscovey defence with his pace and enthusiasm and I'm sure they were glad to see the back of him.
On 80 minutes Ryan Pooley attacked down our right hand side, cut inside and as the keeper approached lifted a beautifully crafted lob for 5-0.
With the players tired from both sides in the very heavy conditions, there was still time for one more moment of class as an attack down our right resulted in Ben Beesley picking up a short pass, darting past his marker and instead of taking on the shot he rolled the ball intelligently across the 6 yard box for the unmarked Andrew Seymour to roll in his 3rd and our 6th.
