Stockport under 15's added to their growing list of trophies by winning the Portugal Rugby Festival staged at the picturesque Lisbon University Stadium.
In a tournament containing sides from all over Europe, South Africa & Australia Stockport moved through the pool stages unbeaten without conceding a try they then faced their toughest ever game against the might of the full Bristol DPP Academy who fielded two sides drawn from the elite of South West Rugby.
In a pulsating opening the Stockport boys led by prop Luca Del Rio tore into the Academy side securing two early tries that saw them into a lead they were never going to surrender. The Stockport back row completely negated any attacking threat from the opposition and then set the platform for the Port backs to make hay with two further scores in the Lisbon sunshine that saw Stockport run out 24-0 winners in a superb display of rugby that left the Bristol coaches grateful it was only a 20 minute game.
An incredible result against a team as strong as Bristol who were restricted to a single visit to the Stockport half which set up a final against the second Bristol Academy side, Bristol Reds.
Unfortunately the final was hampered by an absolutely biblical downpour both before and during the game aided and abetted by a howling wind that limited both sides to meagre scoring opportunities however Stockport proved the stronger of the two side running out winners by two tries to one to see them crowned as Champions.
