Stockport leave it late
Cavalry spring into action to rescue late win
Stockport entertained our good friends from Mold who to a man turned up with a huge spring in their step after the national sides unexpected drubbing of Scotland a day earlier. It almost resembled Italians coming out of the cinema after watching the latest Rocky film such was their confidence.
In a very entertaining first half that confidence was put to good use as it was Mold who took the early plaudits with three well worked tries out wide to give the Stockport boys plenty to think about.
Half time came and Stockport brought on the big guns of Joe Sheridan, Daniel Robinson, Miles & Navid which added to the benefit of going down hill for the second half quickly let the Mold boys know this was going to be a much tougher half.
With everyones legs tiring the power and pace from Navid & Miles made the inroads that saw Stockport pull the game back to three tries apiece before two late tries put Stockport ahead.
Mold then replied with two long range efforts from the best player on the field their scrum half. The final say went to Stockport who managed to sneak a win against a very good Mold side with a late long range try of their own.
Champagne moment of the day though came after Mold suffered several injuries and Joe Sheridan swapped sides to guest for the visitors when one of the Mold players made the mistake of kicking the ball right down Navid's throat, with a full 50 metre run up it was going to take something special to stop the big man but cometh the hour cometh the man when Joe absolutely levelled Navid with a perfect text book tackle to show everyone it doesnt matter how big they are they can still be brought down if you get the technique right.
