11,000 women have started to play Women’s Rugby in the last 2 years, making 26,000 registered players across the UK. Stockport are hoping to add to that number by enabling more women to play by setting up a new women’s section at the club.
The Women’s Section launched on Friday 14 October, 2016 and hopes to attract women and girls (age 11+) from across the area, from complete beginners to experienced players. The long term aim is to set up a successful Women’s XV who compete in matches across Cheshire and Lancashire.
However, the players themselves will shape the journey along the way, whether a team forms immediately or there is a slow build towards it, whether some players are just interested in training and fitness and others ready to work on contact drills, or whether people are looking for a new community to be a part of, Stockport Women’s section will look to cater for all and create a vibrant community that will fit into the wider Stockport RUFC Family.
Venue: Stockport RUFC, Headlands Road, Stockport, SK7 3AN
We expect Wednesday sessions to be geared towards regular players and competive matches and Friday sessions towards beginners, younger players, developing core skills etc.. That said, everyone is welcome to come along to whatever sessions you can!
Feel free to come along and have a go. We are a fun, inclusive and friendly team with plenty of opportunities for players of all abilities and aspirations.
