Last night Tuesday 24th January 2012, the three wise men of Stockport Cricket Club had a huge decision to make.
Mark Green Stockport's long standing and very successful 1st team captain, had decided it was time to stand down.
Mark Green took the captaincy at a tough time when Stockport were under achieving in the small local league. Mark took the team through the Cheshire pyramid in record time winning 3 successive league titles in only 3 years and guided the team into the Cheshire County Cricket League. After a difficult and frustrating season for Mark last year he felt it was his time to step down.
Mark I am sure will continue his brilliant personal performances in the 1's and play a significant part in any future success the team will have.
We would like to take this opportunity to say from everyone at the club, players committee and fans, "We Thank you and Well done for everything you have done in your time as captain" I know the club looks a better club, playing a better standard of cricket and is back to where, such a great club should be, and this in part is due to your efforts and time as 1st XI captain.
The 3 wise men, met with all 3 candidates, in the club house and heard their thoughts on last year's disappointment and their vision for 2012. This is instead of making the decision easier made in tougher with 3 good candidates.
Eventually, Mike Short (Chairman) Colin Wilks (Vice) and Steve Allwright (1st XI Manager) entered the sports hall where Senior Tuesday Night Training was in full flow.
Candidates were called over and then the announcement..
Danny Barber 1st XI Captain for 2012
Danny was the leading run scorer in the 1's last year he scored 486 runs in 27 innings with a top score of 92.
We would like to wish Danny all the best and lots of luck in 2012 from everyone at the club.
Bring on season 2012
Congratulations Danny. Wish you the best of luck. Hope the lads get behind you and bring the success the club deserves.
And Greeny...thanks for making me feel so welcome at the club, and well done on bringing the club so far so quickly.
