On a baking day Stockport made the short trip to Timperley and lost the toss and were put in to bat, much to the relief of the numerous gingers in the team but to the frustration of shareholders of factor 50 suncream companies.

Stockport instantly went to prove this decision wrong and got off to an absolute flyer. Bruce Roberts smashed 67 off just 42 balls including 12 fours and two sixes whilst, short of normal opener John Mills, captain Daniel Wilson promoted himself to the top of the order and hit a run a ball 32. The opening pair put on 96 for the first wicket inside 12 overs, but the departure of Bruce Roberts sparked a mini collapse as Stockport fell to 125 for 5. Gary Barber was still there however and joined by Sam Graham the pair put on 64 for the 6th wicket, to ensure Stockport would bat their full allocation of overs. Sam batted well for his 24 and was unlucky to lose his wicket to a stunning catch in the deep. Gary Barber got an excellent 42 including a six which consisted of a two and four overthrows. Stockport finished on 203 for 9 from their 45 overs.

In reply Bruce Roberts opened the bowling and his extra pace meant he got 2 clean bowleds in the first over of the innings. Used in four over bursts his first spell produced figures of 3 for 8. Owen Breen bowled well and picked up a wicket in his first spell. Sam Graham picked up a wicket and when Bruce got his fourth, removing the Timperley opening bat for 42, Timperley were 85 for 6. Bruce then got his 5th wicket and Daniel Wilson picked up a wicket to leave Timperley at 103 for 8. Matt Graetzer took 2 smart catches.

Timperley then launched a counter attack as M Horan hit 55 in just 33 balls before Owen Breen picked up the vital wicket as Bruce Roberts completed his superb all round performance with a good catch. Stockport had 16 overs to take the last wicket, but the last pair then started to frustrate Stockport as they edged nearer and nearer to the total. As tempers started to boil over Sam Graham kept his cool and showed a penalty shoot out style attitude by asking to bowl the last over and duly got the vital wicket with just 2 balls to spare with Timperley just 7 short of victory.
