Stokeinteignhead Dramatically into another Brockman Final by beating Brixham by 4 wickets
Bowlers & Paul Russell unbeaten 27 put Stoke into a second final in a row
Got there in the end. Just
What a game. Controversy, injuries and wickets galore. Had it all. It was a nervy finish but in the end no matter how we did it we are back on the 23rd to play either Paignton or Lustleigh.
Stoke performers in the Brixham Innings. All bowlers we're great. Mark Russell and Jamie Clinkett set the tone. Jamie taking 3 for 14, Mark 2 for 16 off their four overs, getting key batsman out when they we're getting going. Sreejith Shankar, again, another four wickets, outstanding. Figures 4 for 12. Chris Prestt just the one wicket for 12 runs off 3 overs. General fielding again was professional. Started off in the worst possible way, Chris Parish having to go to Torbay Hospital with a dislocated shoulder, in the very first over of the game. In the end cos of the long delay, getting Chris bandaged up, the umpires decided to make it a 18 over game.
The run chase....
Not the greatest start. 8 for 3. Chris Prestt 4, Andrew Thornton-Clarke Golden Duck, Mike Lang for a duck which I say very controversial. Should have been called a No Ball but in the end gloved it to the keeper and Stoke we're off to the worst possible start. Things started to move, a couple of fours from Paul Russell but then a questionable LBW decision was given out and Sreejith was on his way for a duck, third duck of the Stoke Innings. Then a revival between Roger Putman and Paul, got Stoke nearer and nearer to the Target. Unfortunately Roger was bowled by Blundell, his fourth wicket of the match but in the end fortunately for Stoke it was his last over. Ollie Barnes joined Paul at the crease at 49 for 6. In the end, with the luck of a dropped catch and some nervy running, both of them saw Stoke home with 3.3 overs to spare. Paul Russell a gutsy 27 not out, in the end the match winning Innings. Jubilant celebrations followed.
So 23rd June. Just like to thank Mr Tim Treeby for doing the scoring again, the ever reliable Tim. Thanks also to the Umpires B Goldsmith and P Jolliffe.
Once again. "Torquay, Torquay. We're the famous Stokeinteignhead and we're going to Torquay"
