Stoke make short trip to Leek for game versus near neighbours
For the first time, these two teams played against each other on a damp morning at Leek.
A really good morning's rugby was had and the two squads played the game in the right spirit.
Sam Bradbury and Nathan Mellor were making their Stoke debuts and acquitted themselves well.
Stoke opened the scoring after just two minutes of play when the ball was moved quickly through the backs to Tom Sant on the left hand wing and he raced in to score underneath the posts.
The conversion was slotted by Rory Dyer to make it Leek 0 Stoke 7.
The game was a good one and defences were on top and there were no further scores until the stroke of half-time when a well worked set-piece move saw Lewis Finlow release Greg Garner to touch down.
The conversion was missed and the half-time score was Leek 0 Stoke 12.
At half-time both sides made changes to give players game time.
The second period saw Charlie Connor released to race down the left hand touch line and touch down underneath the posts and Rory Dyer converted after 4 minutes of the half.
Charlie Connor scored another try after a furhter six minutes of the game this time on the right hand side of the posts. The conversion was missed due to the wet underfoot conditions, but 5 minutes later Rory Dyer was successful with a penalty kick to make the score Leek 0 Stoke 27.
The final score of the match again came from a well worked set-piece move which saw Beinn Yule squeeze in at the right hand corner.
Final score of leek 0 Stoke 32.
Good scrums and line outs, solid defence with all players contributing to a good squad performance.
Well done guys.

Fantastic set piece by Lewis Finlow, great No 8 pick up and finished off by Greg Garner!!! Good support play by the forwards and some terrific hands by the backs in some tricky conditions.
