Stoke go marching on.....

Dixonians started the game playing down the slope and barring one short spell in the home half play took place in the visitors half for the first fifteen minutes. Despite this pressure a lack of precision spoilt several promising attacks and the first score was not registered until the sixteenth minute when Steve Talbot kicked a penalty goal. The home side continued to have the better of the exchanges but determined work from the Dixonians pack kept their line intact until the thirty-fourth minute when a home lineout on the visitors 22m line gave the backs the ball and good handling created a try for full back Robert Spruce. From the restart the visitors created their first attacks in the Stoke 22m area but with half time approaching Stoke worked the ball upfield to set up an attack from a lineout which resulted in Dixonians being caught offside in mid field. Stoke took a quick tap kick and slick handling resulted in a try by Ben Cornwall which was converted by Steve Talbot.

Half time: STOKE 15 DIXONIANS 0

Stoke attacked straight from the kickoff and following a penalty kick to the corner a lineout developed into a maul where Pete Wilshaw scored. The home forwards had gained the upper hand and a drive by Jordan Grimshaw ended with a lineout on the visitors 22m line which Stoke won to move the ball across the backs for Gareth Townshend to score in the corner. Stoke now had a twenty-five point lead with half an hour to play to go and they increased this lead when Robert Spruce caught a cross-field kick from Sam Christmas to score wide out on the left after twenty minutes. Dixonians tested the home defence over the next five minutes but despite having the put-in to two five metre scrums they were unable to score and when Stoke eventually pressed an error from their backs the ball was kicked through to deep in the Dixonians half to setup a scrum. When Sam Christmas received quick ball from Chris Rowley, he broke through the defence close to the posts to score a try and simple conversion. Dixonians fitness was tested in their own half for the last ten minutes and with Stoke controlling the ball constant pressure resulted in a try for Paul Ramage following a tap penalty and a break from Simon Price. From the restart Stoke ran the ball back to set up a Dixonians scrum on their own 22m line which was disrupted and when Rich Meredith placed a delicate kick through to the line Chris Rowley won the chase to ground the ball for the final try which was converted by Sam Christmas with the last kick of the game and again took the home tally to over fifty points.

Result: STOKE 51 DIXONIANS 0
