History of Billingham town
Billingham Town was formed in 1967 as Billingham Social Club and changed their name to Billingham Town in 1982. As Social the club played its football in local leagues, initially in the Stockton & District League before joining the Teesside League in 1974. In 1982 they joined the newly formed Northern League Division Two and were promoted at their third attempt but finished bottom in their debut season in the top flight. The club yo-yoed between the two divisions until 1990 and the first half of that decade saw the club remaining in division two until they were promoted back to the top flight in 1997 and have played in that league ever since, finishing as runners-up in 2006–07.
The club has been a regular participant in the national Cup competitions throughout most of its history and reached the 5th round of the FA Vase in the 1997–98 season. Their best effort in the FA Cup was in 2000–01 when they got to the final qualifying round.
