Medics Victorious
From Abdn Medics
The Medics started well with pressure immediately being applied from the kick off. We were met with some very strong defence from Stornoway before we finally made the break through spinning it wide out to Duncan Samuel who went over for the first try of the game. The try was converted by the mysterious return of Joseph Finbar Ryan, who continued in great form to put in a man of the match performance.
Stornoway hit back with some pressure of their own, scoring a penalty try following some strong running from their big pack.
The match hung in the balance with no side dominating possession or territory whilst we picked up a couple of penalties slotted by the Irish demon before Duncan Samuel was once again put through the line to score his second try of the match finishing with extreme pace. Stornaway then scored another try, uncoverted this time to bring the score to 18-12 before half time.
Then with 17 minutes to go disaster struck, Patrick Baker’s legs decided they wouldn’t continue the rest of the match intact and sadly the ambulance had to be called and the match temporarily abandoned. As people tried to calm the angry man we tried to keep warm and make sure we could close out the match.
Eventually the ambulance arrived as Paddy screamed his ‘encouragement’ at us. We reset with a scrum after an almost whole team reshuffle due to a prop being brought on for a centre. With ball secured from the scrum the ball was passed out to that man again, Joseph Ryan who dummied a drop goal before going blind to supply Chompkins who came up less than a metre short but presented the ball for the prop Hamish Duff, who’d been on less than a minute to score in the corner.
Stornoway then hit back shortly after to keep the game to just outside a one score margin. With the scores tight the Medics started to attempt to batten down the hatches with a kicking masterclass being displayed by Joseph Ryan to keep the territory favourable. This territory was eventually rewarded with a final try by Alaisdar ‘Jap’ Turnbull. Another couple of points were notched up for Man of the match Finbar as the game drew to an end.
