In scrimmages beginning Saturday, July 29, the St. Petersburg Swans will continue trials of the AFL's proposed new 'AFLX' format.
Featuring seven-a-side teams, with three in interchange, the AFL's proposed AFLX format is played on a soccer or gridiron football field with no center bounces. Quarters are 10 minutes per, and goals beyond the half-field mark are supergoals.
This will be the second trial for the format in St. Pete, following an early July session that won rave reviews from the players and umpire.
The club is investigating the format for off-season play, and is seen as potentially a boon for recruitment and cleaner match play.
