Then against the run of play Strathaven made a great break with James Westland running almost 75m to score on the left wing.

The Strathaven backs were now looking dangerous in attack with Kyle Dixon making a strong break then supported by Callum to make almost 50m down the right wing, before play moved across the pitch to let Ryan have a score in the left corner. The backs were supported by Strathaven forwards making ground in the close quarter forward play, with Taylor Henderson making much ground with direct runs.

It was not all one way traffic and Strathaven had to put in some big tackles against strong running – tackles of note were Mitch (smallest man on the park) bringing down Cumnock’s biggest man and Kyle Dixon putting in a trademark crunch. However Strathaven attacking play resulted in another fine try with Callum breaking through a double tackle 3m from the line to find space to score under the posts.

There followed a period of sustained Cumnock attack. Great close quarter tackling by Harry Dunsmore prevented a Cumnock forward try – Taylor Henderson put in two strong tackles in the same phase and Cumnock were very unlucky not to score with Kyle Dixon’s tackle pushing their attacker into the corner flag – and Ruaridh McCall’s stopped the Cumnock centre after the resultant lineout. Strathaven finished the period with another try and with Taylor Henderson supporting Kyle Dixon taking the ball on to be tackled short of the goal line allowing Sam Park to snatch the ball and dive over the line.

The second period started with a more direct Cumnock who scored a deserved try down the left wing following a strong run and good handling. Strathaven rallied with a strong run from Robbie Young and Jack Moir making good ground and a well judged offload land Taylor Henderson for the try. Strathaven continued to get turnover ball through excellent ferreting by Josh Morris. A lineout on the right then gave clean possession for the backs to move the ball wide with Mitch scoring under the posts and then converting his own try. The forwards battled on and were resulted in a good supporting try from Ruaridh McCall. Ruaridh McCall then made another run supported by Craig Thompson stopped by Cumnock 1m short of the line. Cumnock killed the ball and Craig Thomson scored from the quick penalty. This was converted.

A very impressive display from all, especially the S1s who stepped up to the mark – S1 man of the match : Callum.
