Playing in their first scheduled fixture since 3rd November 2012, P6 took to the field against Uddingston, a team they last played on 15th September away from home. At the last match P6 drew one game and lost heavily in the second. Despite recent bad weather, the pitch was in good condition and ideal for some rugby. P6 almost had a full squad of players available with 13 turning up on the day. The coaches had decided to play 10 rather than 8-a-side however Uddingston did not want the 5-man scrum.

After a warm-up and match briefing the match kicked-off on time at 1030 hrs. Almost immediately Uddingston were on the attack, playing to their strengths and using their 3 biggest players to the full. Strathaven struggled in defence and the tackling was weak, reflecting a severe lack of match time. Whenever Strathaven had possession, little ground was made before a breakdown and Uddingston were strong in the ruck do turnovers were frequent. Handling was slow and too many players werre slow off the mark and waited until contact before looking to pass. Uddingston were stout in defence and moved in quickly whenever Strathaven had a restart, allowing for no territorial gain. The referree had to penalise Uddingston several times for pinning the arms in the tackle, something their coaches seemed surprised at, however they were still a team good in defence despite the infringements. Strathaven had far too few players putting in proper tackles that were capable of stopping the Uddingston players. An early injury to Duncan Campbell allowed for Sam Howie to come on as substitute. Matthew Dixon was tackled round the neck at the 5m line on the right wing giving Strathaven a penalty. Fortunately they were able to string a move together before Matthew deservedly scored the only Strathaven try of the match.

Final Score Strathaven 1 - 8 Uddingston

in the second game it was more of the same. Uddingston proved to be a fit as well as a strong team and were able to keep their running moves going for a full two 30 mins games. They dominated possession yet again and never allowed Strathaven to get anywhere with the ball, killinhg any move rapidly before it got close to the gain line. Indiscipline and bickering amongst the Strathaven players did nothing to help their cause. Too many boys looked like they weren't at the races and just not switched on whereas all credit to Uddingston they played good all-round rugby and stuck together like a team, something Stratahven never looked like.

Final Score Strathaven 0 - 6 Uddingston

P6 will have to learn a tough lesson from these two matches. They are much better than this in training. While some of them take their rugby seriously at games and training sessions others don't and the team suffered as a result. Too often the coaches are sorting out nonsense rather than teaching rugby skills. More focus on the rugby is needed or more defeats like this will come, while other teams progress faster.
