Strathaven welcomed Uddingston up for a home game on Saturday the 16th of February. As always the opposition are formidable adversaries and we went into the first game with a bit of trepidation, no fault of the boys but poor weather over the past few months to train and match practice. All started as text book as you would expect on the first half on game one, but on the second half we turned the match around by hard tackles, good presentation and passing the ball. At full time the first score was 5-3 to the visitors.

The second game was even closer with a bit of frustration shown by the opposition as it wasn’t going all there way. We were getting a lot of match injuries in this game but finished it by using our one sub we had. With a scores 6-5 to the visitors at full time we were more than happy. At this point I have to add the difference in height and build between the two teams is quite staggering.

By the third game we lost Josh Watson due to an ankle injury so no subs for the third game.

We started the third game knowing the opposition’s weaknesses and from tap to passing the ball down the line exposed their defence to score some brilliant tries, two of the tries were scored from our 5m line. The defence was also posing them problems as it was hard for them to penetrate. Final score was 4-4.

Stuart Armstrong and Mathew Moon scored the biggest amount of tries and the rest spread evenly amongst the boys, but, the team showed fantastic team work, defence, tackling ability and also determination to put to bed the fear of size of the opposition.

With all said both teams played well and our boys got a pat on the back from Uddingstons coach.

The names of the team were; Adam Walker, Josh Watson, Matthew Moon, Stuart Armstrong, Oran Mullan, Ben Cameron and our new lad Alexander Neilson.
