Another congratulations this week to the U15’s who became the West Quaich Champions on Saturday defeating Glasgow Hawks 18-14 in an excellent game. A huge well done to all of the lads, their coaches and the over 100 SRFC members and supporters that travelled to Scotstoun a special mention to the U15 squad members who never made Saturdays team, I was hugely impressed by the level of maturity shown by the guys who supported the rest of the squad to victory, all of them a true credit to Strathaven RFC. Last but not least a huge thank you to all of the support that travelled we had over 100 Strathaven RFC supporters from all levels of the club at Scotstoun and the atmosphere was fantastic, a true showing of our “One Club” ethos.

Please make sure you keep an eye out for the Hamilton Advertiser or look at their website from Saturday morning for the article they wrote this week on our boys who also appeared on BBC Alba before the Glasgow Warriors game last week. Match report and pictures available on the website;

AGM ALERT – The clubs Annual General Meeting will be held on Thursday the 29th of May 2014 from 7pm. You will be written to via e-mail with all information 2 weeks prior to the meeting, as discussed/ approved at the EGM life members will be written to. This is a meeting which all members should attend regardless of voting rights (as per the clubs constitution you must have 3 years consecutive membership to have voting rights). It’s an important meeting at which your new committee will be determined and important decisions will be made regarding the clubs future. If you believe you can help the club and become part of its committee don’t wait to be asked or nominated simply make yourself known to any member of the committee or club and we’ll nominate you on the night. Unfortunately we haven’t had a full capacity committee for a few years and there are several roles currently vacant, it’s also highly likely that a couple of current committee members will step down this year so don’t be shy come forward, your club needs you!

SUMMER TOUCH RUGBY returned two weeks ago and will continue throughout May starting from 7pm every Tuesday lasting approximately an hour, all welcome. This week we had 40 players with a couple of new faces amongst them it’s great to see so many people up at the club giving rugby a try, if your returning this week try and bring along a friend. Touch is a great way to keep fitness and skill levels up over the off season, nothing serious just a bit of fun and all are welcome. The sessions will consist of one large game of touch, two games if we have enough players teams will be made up of a mixture of age groups. Feel free to bring friends or relatives even if they haven't played rugby before it’s a fun way to introduce them to the sport and the club. Please note that the club may not be open for touch so you should come dressed to play and bring your boots with you to change into outside. This is an un-coached session so all U16’s should be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Training is on as normal on Saturday from 10am for all age groups from P1 – U16’s.

This Sunday our P3 – P7 squads will be travelling the short distance to East Kilbride to play in their annual tournament, please keep an eye on your e-mails for further information on this.

Also on Sunday our S1 & S2 squads are Away to Allan Glens in friendly action kicking off at 12:30pm all layers at Allan Glens by 11.30am please, this will be the penultimate game of the season.
