Training finished until Saturday the 11th of Jan for P1-U16’s, 1XV game cancelled this Saturday, Over 25s vs Under 25s on Saturday the 28th of December

Hi Everyone,

Training is now finished for all age groups between P1 –U16’s until Saturday the 11th of January. The 1XV have training sessions this Tuesday & Thursday at the club from 7pm, Thursdays session will be the last before the Christmas break returning on Tuesday the 7th of January. The 1XV’s fixture this weekend against Carrick has also been cancelled due to Carrick not having playing facilities available, this game will be rescheduled for later on in the season.

It’s hard to believe that Christmas and all the festivities that come with it are upon us, one of those festivities and now a long standing Strathaven RFC tradition is the Under 25’s vs Over 25’s game that will take place on Saturday the 28th of December kicking off at 1pm, the meet time for all players is 11:45pm. If you are over 16 and fancy a game over Christmas then please feel free to pop up and join in, it’s a full contact game of rugby but light hearted and fun for everyone playing as well as spectating. We welcome all players and coaches over 16 to come and join us on the 28th of December for this time honoured Strathaven RFC tradition.

The overs vs unders game started off as a match to keep the players going over the winter months during the rugby seasons break however, it has progressed into an annual rivalry and drinking session matched by none (other than maybe the stag dinner!). The match is typically played by the 1XV shored up with lots of special guest appearances from players returning from other clubs, retirement, minis/ midis coaches and the occasional 1XV supported donning the gold and blue checks for the first time. It’s a fun game to play in or to support with a refreshment in hand, there’s always a great atmosphere around the club on the day and we hope you’ll be there to join the fun in between Christmas and New Year on Saturday the 28th whether it’s in a playing or supporting role.

The overs have it all to play for this year with the unders winning last year’s game and now defending the coveted Stevie Alder Memorial Trophy. What side will you choose to support this year, the young wiper snappers compiled of our current 1XV players and returning U25 players or our seasoned veterans featuring our over 25’s from the 1XV shored up with some returning faces and guest appearances?

Have a great festive period & much needed break from work and make sure you come along on the 28th for what is set to be a great day out for all, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year when it comes from all at Strathaven RFC!
Cheers,

Chunk
Vice-President
