Hat-trick for Mitchell but Strathmore U18s slip up again in last few minutes

Strathmore 24 Dunfermline 26

3 tries from No8 Fergus Mitchell wasn’t enough to see off a dogged Dunfermline side at Forfar on Saturday. Strathmore, playing their best rugby of the season in the first half, were 4 tries to 0 up at half time supported by a strong wind and a strong scrum and line out. However, their second half performance did not match the first half, as they could not keep the ball, lost players to injury and allowed Dunfermline back into the game due to weak tackling which gave Dunfermline 4 second half tries of their own. Joel Farrell was the other try scorer for Strathmore which saw the young winger touch down in the corner following excellent passing at pace from the backs. Mark McQueen converted two tries.

Strathmore are now competing strongly against the best sides in the Midlands in Division 1 which is real progress and with a large squad the players have a few weeks break during which they have decided to work even harder to build on their performances in order to improve further for the second part of the league programme.

Strathmore U18 squad:
