Report by Paul Wilson

Last Wednesday evening Strathmore RFC hosted a festive inter club game at Inchmacoble under the floodlights in front of a large supporting crowd. 44 players made up of some current 1st & 2nd XV Strathmore players along with fellow Angus Development team players from Montrose were joined by a few Strathie legends on the night. The players were split reasonably evenly in to two teams by head coach Stewart Ross with Club Captain Colin "Jesus" Bell leading Jesus' Saints and injured Prop Marc Scoular being in charge of Scoular's Bull Dogs.

The game which was played in a great spirit by all involved was split into three 20 minute periods with revolving subs allowing some of the more older guys time to recover and then take to the pitch again following a second wind. The club legends were beginning to show the youngsters how it should be done with George "Heff" Strachan, Gary Wood, Kev Mollison and Dave Brown leading the way, furthermore it was former Club captain Stuart Gray who stole the show by scoring 2 great tries for his team and was rightly awarded Man of the match by his coach. Club president Bob Baldie also got Man of the match for his participation playing in the other team, despite hanging about in the backs rather than being where he should have been playing as a forward. All in all it was a great Club night with Scoulars Bull Dogs running out worthy winners 27-17. A huge thanks to Referee Stephen Greenhill for keeping the game flowing and the boys in check.

Training resumes as normal this week Tuesday and Thursday in preparation for the 1st XV heading to Glenrothes in the semi final of the Bowl competition which is a 1.30pm kick off this Saturday 07th Jan. Meanwhile the 2's / Angus Development team are away to Aberfeldy which will be a 2pm Kick off.
