Aberdeen Warriors 38 - 44 Strathmore Silverbacks

Match Report for Forfar Dispatch
- Paul Wilson.

Aberdeen Warriors 38 - 44 Strathmore Silverbacks.

The newly formed Strathmore Silverbacks travelled up to Aberdeen on Saturday to take on the experienced Aberdeen Warriors side in their opening Rugby League game at Woodside Sports Complex. The Silverbacks have been training the last couple of Wednesday evenings down at Inchmacoble where Head Coach Dave Vernon had been working hard to prepare the newly formed side for this development game and the players certainly didn't let him down. The Silverbacks took an early lead in the first half following some great work through strong team play and individual hard aggressive running which meant they led the young Warriors side 18 - 32 at halftime. The Warriors obviously realised the Silverbacks were meaning business and started to introduce more experience players throughout the second half and it took a fantastic solo effort from former Eagles player Dave Vernon to break through the Warriors defence and score an outstanding try. The Silverbacks were delighted to have won their opening game considering they had 4 young lads stepping up to play with the minimum age being 16 in Rugby League. If anyone is interested in playing for the Silverbacks then pop along to training on Wednesday evenings 6.30pm start at Strathmore RFC Inchmacoble Forfar.
