Strathmore’s Autumn Tests

GAME 1

With Strathmore not having any league fixtures during “Movember” the decision was made to invite some teams to play us at home, under the lights midweek to keep the boys match fit during this time.
Last Thursday saw the first of these games being played against Dundee High 2XV/1XV.
This turned out to be a very physical game with neither team gaining the upper hand.
The game was played at a great pace and some good attacking and defending skills were shown by both teams.
In the end it was Strathmore that came out on top winning 10 – 8
A well deserved man of the match award was given to Bruce Morrice.

Trys: James Kiely, Bruce Morrice
Cons: 0 from 2
Pen: 0 from 2

GAME 2

Strathmore welcomed Howe of Fife 2XV/1XV to Inchmacoble for the second midweek fixture of “Movember”.
The first half was a well fought battle by both teams under cold and somewhat frosty conditions.
With the game going from one end of the pitch to the other the handling mistakes were plentiful.
The first half ended 7 – 5 with a Bruce Morrice try and conversion by Brad McKenzie to a Howe try.
With coaches words still ringing in their ears the second half got under way, the men in black restarted the game with a renewed vigour.
With the half only 6 minutes old Jamie Wilson broke from the back of a ruck to score the first points of the second half, converted by McKenzie.
The next points to be scored was like watching something out of the premiership! With our very own Andy Goode, Davie Browns cross field kick being gathered by young David Smith who then left the would be defenders for dead to score in the corner, converted by McKenzie.
Following this came two quick fire try’s one from Brad McKenzie and Jamie Wilson’s grabbing his second of the night with a little bit of “more effort” from fit again 8, both converted by McKenzie.
The last try for Strathie came from sustained pressure from the pack before scrum half for the night Jamie McLaren barged his way over to score, converted by McKenzie.
The game finished with a consolation try for Howe and gave a final score of 42 – 10.
A well deserved man of the match award was given to David Brown.

Trys: Wilson 2, Morrice, Smith, McKenzie, McLaren J.
Cons: 6 from 6
Pens: 0 from 0
